Absa Bank Injects Ksh.15 Investment into Magical Kenya Ladies Open Tourney

Absa Bank Kenya PLC has solidified its commitment to sports tourism and women’s empowerment by investing Ksh.15 million in the Magical Kenya Ladies Open (MKLO) golf tournament.

The bank will serve as the tournament’s official banking partner, with Ksh.10 million allocated for organizing the event and Ksh.5 million for media and experiential activities.

The MKLO, scheduled from February 8 to 11, is the opening leg of the Ladies European Tour 2024 calendar, bringing together female golfers worldwide at Vipingo Ridge.

Moses Muthui, Absa Bank Kenya’s Consumer Banking Director, expressed the bank’s joy in supporting MKLO, emphasizing the opportunity to showcase stories of determination and resilience among female golfers.

The partnership reflects Absa’s recognition of the tournament’s role in promoting sports tourism and fostering women’s empowerment. Dirk Glittenberg, Managing Director of U.COM Media, the tournament organizers, welcomed the collaboration, expressing excitement about growing women’s golf in Kenya and East Africa.

The prestigious tournament has attracted top golfers, including Alexandra Försterling, Kristýna Napoleaová, Alice Hewson, April Angurasaranee, and Lisa Pettersson. Additionally, five Kenyan amateur golfers; Naomi Wafula, Mercy Nyanchama, Channelle Wangari, Jacqueline Walter, and Kellie Gachaga will compete in the tournament.

Absa Bank’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to leveraging sports events for national development and promoting women’s participation in golf.
