Agoro Sare Triumphs as Kisumu Day’s Appeal Rejected, Secures Spot in the Nationals
Kisumu Day had appealed Agoro Sare’s victory, alleging that they fielded an ineligible player during the final match.
According to Kisumu Day, Agoro Sare had included a player who was part of the Dagoretti High School team that participated in last year’s school games while still in Form Three.
However, the Regional Sports Disputes Committee rejected the appeal, citing a lack of evidence to support Kisumu Day’s claims. The committee accused Kisumu Day of presenting falsified documents in an attempt to overturn Agoro Sare’s win.
Nyanza region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary, Thomas Odhiambo, emphasized that there was no proof to verify the alleged connection of the player to Dagoretti High School.
According to Odhiambo, the player in question had previously attended Usenge High School before transferring to Agoro Sare High School. He stated that the documents presented by Kisumu Day’s Team manager, Booker Odhiambo, were fabricated and lacked authentication by the principal of Dagoretti High School.
Despite the committee’s ruling, Booker expressed dissatisfaction with the decision and revealed intentions to pursue further action following the failure of their appeal. He stated, “I have accepted the verdict, but I am not giving up. There is a plan B.”
Agoro Sare’s triumph over Kisumu Day in the final match was a thrilling encounter, culminating in a 7-6 victory in post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
The victory provided Agoro Sare with a chance for revenge, as they had faced defeat against the Kisumu-based side with a 2-0 loss in the previous year’s final.
With their spot secured to represent the Nyanza region, the Agoro Sare High School football team is now preparing to showcase their skills and talent on the national stage in Kakamega.
The Kenya Secondary School games promise to be a platform for young athletes to shine and compete at the highest level, fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among schools from various regions across the country.
