Carlos Alcaraz overcame Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller to claim his third Grand Slam title, making him the youngest player to win majors on all three surfaces in a dramatic French Open final.

The 21-year-old Spaniard showed resilience and skill, fighting through cramps and a deficit to secure the victory with scores of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Alcaraz’s triumph at Roland Garros adds to his impressive collection of Grand Slam titles, which includes a win at Wimbledon against Novak Djokovic and the US Open title in 2022. His sights are now set on the Australian Open, where he could become the youngest to achieve a career Grand Slam.

Despite settling a legal matter just days before the final, fourth seed Zverev’s quest for his first major title continues. His previous attempt at a Grand Slam title ended in a loss to Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open after leading by two sets.

The final was a rollercoaster of emotions and momentum swings. Zverev’s shaky start, marked by double faults, contrasted with Alcaraz’s initial jitters, which quickly dissipated as he found his rhythm. Although Zverev regained his composure to take the second set, Alcaraz’s tenacity shone through, especially during a crucial line call that went his way, much to Zverev’s frustration.

Alcaraz’s victory was celebrated by his idol, Rafael Nadal, who congratulated him on joining the prestigious list of Spanish Roland Garros champions. The match was a testament to Alcaraz’s growing prowess and Zverev’s unyielding determination, setting the stage for more exciting encounters between these talented players.
