Barcelona Ladies SC and Lysa FC emerged as the champions of the Central region in the fourth edition of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament, held at Wang’uru Stadium in a stunning display of skill and determination, in Kirinyaga County.
Barcelona Ladies SC, the reigning champions, continued their dominance by securing their third consecutive regional title with a 5-0 thrashing of St. Joseph from Murang’a.
Calta Nasambu, the tournament’s top scorer, led the charge with a goal in the 23rd minute, setting the tone for a one-sided affair. The team’s victory was further cemented by goals from Loise Matendechere, Milca Wambui, and Naomi Masinde, ensuring their place in the national finals.
Coach Emman Wafula Gullit praised his team’s commitment and is now focusing on preparations for the national finals in Kisumu, where they aim to claim the national trophy.
In the boys’ division, Lysa FC made an impressive comeback to win their first regional title by defeating M-PESA Foundation Academy 3-2.
Despite falling behind early, goals from John Lokalia and Peter Kamau turned the tide in favor of Lysa FC. A crucial penalty save by Jydell Kariuki secured their victory and a spot in the national finals.
The victorious teams were rewarded with KES. 250,000 each and will represent the Central region in the national showdown. The runners-up, St. Joseph Girls and M-PESA Foundation Academy, received KES. 150,000 each.
Individual accolades were also awarded, with the MVP, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorers receiving KES. 30,000 each. Additionally, players from the winning teams received Neon Ultra phones, while the runners-up received Neon Smarter Phones.
The Central region’s conclusion marks the end of the regional finals, with teams now gearing up for the national finals in Kisumu.
The tournament featured 325 teams and serves as a platform for discovering new talent and training coaches, targeting footballers aged 16 to 20 years. Barcelona Ladies SC and Lysa FC join other regional champions in the quest for national glory.
