Brazil to host FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027
Brazil has been selected as the host country for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking a historic decision by FIFA’s member associations, who voted 119 to 78 in favor of Brazil over the joint bid from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. This momentous occasion will see the prestigious tournament held in South America for the first time.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino extended his congratulations to Brazil, expressing anticipation for what he believes will be an exceptional World Cup. He also commended the efforts of the competing BNG bid.
The decision was influenced by Brazil’s superior technical proposal, which included comprehensive plans for stadiums, accommodations, fan zones, and transportation, as outlined in FIFA’s bid evaluation report.
Notably, the United States and Mexico had previously withdrawn their joint bid, opting instead to focus on the 2031 tournament, a move followed by South Africa.
Brazil, having previously hosted the men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014, is no stranger to the global football stage. The upcoming women’s tournament will maintain the expanded 32-team format introduced in the 2023 edition, which saw Spain emerge victorious over England.
The announcement adds Brazil to the list of distinguished nations that have hosted the Women’s World Cup, including China, Sweden, the United States, Germany, Canada, and France, further cementing its place in football history.
