Bungoma Queens’ Fixture Postponed as Team Mourns Loss of Player Centrine Waswa
The Kenya Football Federation (FKF) league and competition committee has decided to postpone the upcoming fixture between Kenya Women Premier League side Bungoma Queens and Ulinzi Starlets.
The decision comes as a compassionate response to the untimely death of Bungoma Queens’ player, Centrine Waswa, who passed away on January 1 after a brief illness.
Head coach Robert Machio expressed the shock and sorrow felt by the team, emphasizing Waswa’s positive impact and disciplined nature within the squad. The burial plans for the 23-year-old player are set for Saturday at her parents’ home in Kimilili, Bungoma County.
Machio commended FKF for their understanding and consideration in rescheduling the match against Ulinzi, allowing the team to pay their respects at Waswa’s burial.
The late player was a founding member of Bungoma Queens in 2021 and played a crucial role in the team’s ascent from the Regional League to Division One.
In a gesture of respect, FKF has instructed that all Women’s Premier League matches scheduled for the weekend will observe a minute of silence before kick-off in memory of Centrine Waswa.
