Catherine Aura Leads Team to Victory at KCB East Africa Golf Tour in Kakamega

Catherine Aura, alongside her team members Ronald Omondi, Beatrice Otieno, and Derek Mwaura, showcased their exceptional golf skills to secure the overall title at the 5th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour held at the picturesque 9-hole Kakamega Golf Course on Saturday.

As the chairperson of the Kakamega Golf Club, Aura displayed her expertise and leadership, guiding her team to victory with a combined score of 114 points.

They will be joined by Sanjiv Walias, Protus Oketch, Justus Oyiengo, and Logan Busolo, who secured second place with a total of 110 points. Both teams have earned the opportunity to participate in the tour’s grand finale, scheduled for November at the prestigious Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Expressing her delight, Aura stated, “This win is truly well-deserved for us. We dedicated the past week to intensive practice sessions as a team, aiming to refine our skills and prepare for this series.” She added, “Our success can be attributed to our teamwork and unwavering passion for the game. Knowing that we will face tough competition in the grand finale, we will intensify our training and strive to compete at the highest level in November.”

In an outstanding individual performance, Ondino Abubakar, with a handicap of 25, claimed the title of the overall winner with an impressive score of 41 Stableford points at the lush par-72 Kakamega course. Lydia Oketch, a handicapped 19 golfer, secured the lady winner award with 35 Stableford points.

Geoffrey Yego, who previously secured a spot in the grand finale during the 4th leg of the series, earned the longest drive award in the men’s category.

Meanwhile, Irine Ashioya emerged victorious in the longest drive category among the ladies. Dharama Sharma, playing off a handicap of 19, secured the guest winner award with 35 Stableford points, while Eliud Siganga, a handicapped 25 golfer, claimed the staff winner award.

The tour now sets its sights on the Nyanza Golf Club, where the next leg of the tournament will take place from June 9-11, promising more thrilling golfing action.
