Chebet dominates to take victory in women’s 5,000m at Kip Keino Classic over strong competition
Beatrice Chebet wins women’s 5,000m title at Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi. The former world cross country junior champion won the event in 15:15.82, beating Margaret Kipkemboi Chelimo in 15:16.28 and Judith Kiyeng in third place.
Lilian Kasait finished fourth in her first competition since serving a doping ban. Chebet expressed her excitement for the upcoming races of the season and hopes to continue improving her performance.
Lemi Teddese from Ethiopia won the men’s 5,000m title with a time of 13:2658, while Ishmail Rokitto from Kenya came in second place at 13:27.34 and Peter Maru from Uganda in third place at 13:28.14.
Zambian Muzala Samukonga emerged victorious in the men’s 400m, setting a new meeting record of 44.25. He beat American Vernon Norwood and French international Gilles Biron. Kenyan Boniface Mweresa finished fourth with a season-best time of 45.73.
Daniel Simiu wins the 10,000m title at KipKeino Classic in Moi International Stadium. Simiu, who previously won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, easily took the victory in a time of 28:09.94.
Currently ranked ninth in the world rankings for his speciality, the African Championships silver medalist has a personal best of 27:11.26, which he set at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham last year.
