Beatrice Chepkoech, the world record holder in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, is focused on the upcoming national trials for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
In the Athletics Kenya National Championships held at Nyayo Stadium, Chepkoech won the second heat of the women’s 5000m with a time of 15:54.98. She expressed that this race is part of her preparations for the national trials, aiming to improve her speed endurance before the World Championships.
Chepkoech missed the previous World Championships due to an injury, but she is now in good shape and hopeful of securing a spot in Budapest.
Her confidence was boosted by pacing for Faith Kipyegon’s new 1500m record in Florence, and she aims to set a good time at the national trials and further improve it in Hungary.
In the upcoming final, Chepkoech will face strong competition from athletes such as Janet Chepngetich, Margaret Chelimo, and Lilian Kasait. Despite the tough competition, she remains focused on running her own race without putting unnecessary pressure on herself.
In other results from the championships, Pamela Kosgei, Leah Jeruto, and Purity Cherotich secured spots in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final, while Rahab Johnson, Diana Chebet, and Gladys Ngure advanced in the women’s 400m hurdles.
Asbel Kemboi emerged as the winner in the men’s high jump, and Roseline Rakamba claimed victory in the women’s hammer throw.
