Confidence High as Kenya Volleyball Squads Unveiled for Zone V Championship
Officials from the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) expressed optimism about the upcoming Zone V Championship and African Games qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.
During the squad unveiling at Nyayo Gymnasium, KVF president Charles Nyaberi expressed confidence that both Malkia Strikers and Wafalme Stars have the quality to secure spots for the African Games scheduled for March 8-23 in Accra, Ghana.
Nyaberi acknowledged the tough competition ahead but emphasized the strength of the Kenyan teams. Gideon Tarus, head coach of General Service Unit (GSU), will lead Wafalme Stars, assisted by Dennis Mokua from Kenya Prisons and Elisha Aliwa from KDF.
Tarus highlighted the team’s determination to qualify after a 13-year hiatus, with Egypt and Rwanda identified as strong contenders.
Malkia Strikers will be led by KCB head coach Japheth Munala, working alongside Josp Barasa from Kenya Prisons and former setter Janet Wanja. Munala sees the competition as part of their preparations for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
The squads will be finalized next Wednesday, with 14 players for Wafalme Stars and 12 for Malkia Strikers, before departing for Cairo on January 20.
