Isuzu East Africa has unveiled the special edition Eliud Kipchoge 1:59 Isuzu D-Max Limited in recognition of the achievements of the two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge at the Isuzu East Africa along Mombasa Road.
During the unveiling ceremony, Isuzu East Africa Managing Director Rita Kavashe and marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge presented the desert orange-coloured vehicle.
Isuzu General Marketing Manager Kevin Ochieng was also in attendance.
The special limited edition vehicle features a symbolic “1:59” to celebrate Kipchoge’s accomplishments during his five-year partnership with Isuzu.
The two-time Olympic marathon champion Kipchoge had the privilege of driving home the first special edition, designated as 001.
Kipchoge made headlines by breaking his own world marathon record in Berlin last year, completing the race in two hours and nine seconds. However, the “Eliud Kipchoge 1:59 Isuzu D-Max” pays tribute to his historic achievement in the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Austria, where he became the first athlete to complete a marathon in under two hours, clocking 1:59:41 on October 12, 2019.
“These will be limited editions for customers interested. We only have 159 vehicles available, so those interested should act quickly!” said Ochieng.
The vehicle encompasses three intertwined concepts, representing three personas simultaneously. It immortalizes Eliud as the greatest of all time, embodies the Kenyan spirit, and signifies limitless capabilities for everyone, explained Ochieng.
The limited edition exclusively features a desert orange colour and the national flag of Kenya on the grill, while the wheels and rims are black to symbolize the people of Kenya.
Additionally, it bears the “1:59” mark from his performance at INEOS, along with his signature on the door and custom mats.
Every buyer of the special edition vehicle will have their name engraved on it, according to Ochieng.
Kavashe, who has been part of Kipchoge’s journey since their partnership began, acknowledged his remarkable achievements, including setting a new world marathon record by winning the 2018 Berlin Marathon in 2:01:39 before surpassing it last year.
The “Eliud 1:59 Isuzu D-Max” is a testament to Kipchoge’s extraordinary legacy, representing his exceptional athletic abilities and the spirit of Kenya.
