Equity Hawks displayed sheer dominance as they cruised to a commanding 53-21 victory over Africa Nazarene University (ANU) in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Women’s Premier League clash at Nyayo Gymnasium on Saturday, despite missing their captain Melissa Akinyi due to illness.

Stepping up in Akinyi’s absence, Betty Kananu emerged as the standout performer for the bankers, leading the charge with an impressive tally of 17 points.

Rachel Akinyi also contributed significantly with 10 points, further solidifying Equity’s pursuit of a favorable playoff position.

The revamped Equity squad, bolstered by mid-season signings from rivals Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and other institutions, showcased their strength and depth on the court. Notable acquisitions such as Akinyi, Rita Anyango, Jemimah Omondi, Ivy Opicho, Deborah Atieno, and Elizabeth Okumu have added a new dimension to the team’s gameplay.

From the onset, Equity asserted their superiority over ANU, taking a commanding 10-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and extending it to 21-9 by halftime. Kananu’s prowess in securing offensive rebounds and drawing fouls proved pivotal as she capitalized on scoring opportunities.

Meanwhile, defending champions KPA continued their unbeaten streak with a convincing 68-46 victory over USIU in Mombasa, further solidifying their status as title contenders in the league.
