Collins ‘Gattuso’ Okoth, the ex-midfielder for Gor Mahia and the national team, is facing a 21-day detention period following charges of defilement and the alleged murder of a young child in Nairobi’s Lucky Summer Estate. The incident reportedly occurred on April 22, 2024, during the mother’s absence from their home.

The Makadara Law Courts have heard the case, where evidence presented included a report from the local police station, indicating the discovery of a juvenile’s body with signs of violence. The court has allowed the prosecution’s request to hold Okoth for further investigation.

In addition to the detention, Okoth is to undergo DNA testing and a mental health evaluation at a government facility. The case is set for a progress update on June 3, 2024.

The child’s mother, Beatrice Awuor, reported missing her daughter after leaving her in the early hours of April 22 and returning to an empty house. The investigation has uncovered potential evidence of a break-in and indications that the suspect may have been attempting to escape.

Okoth, who transferred from Tusker FC to Gor Mahia in 2010 and later to AFC Leopards in 2018, was recently seen as a television analyst at a major football match. He is currently in custody at Pangani Police Station, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations gathering evidence for the upcoming court proceedings.
