FKF Launches FIFA FKF Women’s Football Campaign to Empower Girls
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) unveiled the FIFA FKF Women’s Football Campaign at Kasarani Annexon on June 1.
The campaign focuses on establishing a structured pathway that nurtures young players, providing them with the necessary support and guidance to excel in football and pursue opportunities at the national team and professional levels in the future.
This global program aims to enhance female participation in football and foster the development of women and girls in the sport.
During the launch, FKF President Nick Mwendwa emphasized the significance of this campaign in empowering young girls and promoting women’s football in Kenya.
Recognizing the challenges faced by young girls in pursuing their dreams, Mwendwa highlighted the partnership with FIFA to create awareness and inspire more girls to embrace football, empowering them to become future champions.
To kickstart the campaign, a vibrant two-day tournament was held at Kasarani Annex, bringing together primary schools from across Nairobi.
The event featured various 5-a-side games designed to create a fun and engaging environment for the children. One of the highlights of the tournament was the interaction between the participants and football ambassadors and legends who served as mentors.
These role models ignited the passion of the young players and encouraged them to pursue their football dreams.
As part of the campaign, football clinics and tournaments will be organized in schools across the country, providing young girls with an opportunity to showcase their skills and talent. Additionally, the campaign will provide schools with equipment, training materials, and in-kind support to facilitate their involvement in women’s football.
A significant aspect of the program is the establishment of girls’ grassroots football leagues. By focusing on players and school team coaches from primary schools, the campaign ensures that young athletes receive proper football education from an early stage, facilitating their growth and development into potential future professionals.
The launch of the FIFA FKF Women’s Football Campaign marks a vital step in promoting gender equality in Kenyan football and creating a platform for girls to thrive in the sport.
With increased awareness and support, it is hoped that more young girls will be inspired to pursue their football aspirations and contribute to the growth of women’s football in Kenya.
