Gor Mahia Reclaims Top Spot with A Narrow Victory Over Kenya Police in FKF-PL

Gor Mahia returned to the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) table with a 1-0 victory over Kenya Police at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani on Saturday.

The win came after Tusker, who had previously led the standings, lost 1-0 to Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Gor now leads the table with 56 points from 26 matches, with Tusker in second place with 54 points from 25 matches.

Bidco United recorded the day’s biggest win, a 3-0 triumph over Sofapaka at MISC Kasarani Annex. Meanwhile, Nairobi City Stars beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in an early kick-off at the same venue.

In other matches, relegation-threatened Wazito surprised Ulinzi Stars 1-0 at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu, while 10-man Posta Rangers worsened Mathare United’s relegation woes with a 2-0 win at Ruaraka Grounds. Bandari and FC Talanata drew 1-1 at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

The clash between Gor and Police was the highlight of the weekend, with the latter hoping to avenge their 2-1 loss to Gor Mahia in the first leg. It was a closely contested encounter, with midfielder Austin Odhiambo scoring the only goal of the match in the 56th minute, thanks to an assist from Benson Omala.

After the match, Gor’s coach Jonathan Mckinstry expressed his satisfaction with the win, while acknowledging the hotly contested title race.

Police coach Francis Baraza said that despite the loss, his team would continue to fight until the end.

At Sudi Stadium, Nzoia Sugar secured a 1-0 win over Tusker, with James Kibande scoring the only goal from the spot in the 22nd minute.

The defending champions had a goal ruled out in the dying minutes of the match, handing Nzoia their seventh consecutive unbeaten game.

Bidco United also had a good day, recording their first win in nine matches with a convincing 3-0 win over Sofapaka.

On Sunday, Vihiga Bullets will face Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium at 3 pm.

Overall, the title race in the FKF-PL is heating up, with several teams still in contention as the season approaches its final stages.
