Jonathan McKinstry, the head coach of Gor Mahia, expressed his frustration after his team suffered a disappointing exit from the FKF Cup in the round of 32 against Coastal side Denmak FC. With a well-prepared effort, Gor Mahia was unable to secure victory, ultimately losing out 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.

McKinstry lamented the outcome, stating, “It’s frustrating that despite our thorough preparations, we couldn’t capitalize on our dominance. We had trained diligently for two weeks with the intention of progressing to the finals, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.”

The Irish coach acknowledged Gor Mahia’s dominance throughout the game but admitted their failure to convert chances into goals. He credited Denmak FC for their resilience and high-quality football, acknowledging their determination to overcome Gor Mahia.

“When facing Gor Mahia, opposing teams always aim to defeat us, and Denmak FC executed their game plan effectively. While I don’t fault my players, we must accept that in football, results can swing in any direction,” McKinstry remarked.

McKinstry also praised Denmak FC’s young goalkeeper for his exceptional performance, acknowledging his crucial saves that denied Gor Mahia a place in the next round.

Although McKinstry rested key players like Benson Omalla, Rooney Onyango, and Alpha Onyango in anticipation of an upcoming league match against Posta Rangers, his tactical decision did not yield the desired outcome.

Looking ahead, McKinstry remains confident in Gor Mahia’s league campaign, emphasizing that a single setback in the cup competition should not overshadow their impressive performance in the league. With their sights set on the league trophy, McKinstry is focused on the remaining fixtures.

Gor Mahia currently leads the league standings with 47 points from 22 matches, having suffered just one defeat against Police FC earlier in the season. Their next challenge awaits against second-placed Posta Rangers, as McKinstry aims to maintain their position at the top of the table.
