Gor Mahia edged closer to clinching the Kenyan Premier League title with a slender 1-0 victory over Shabana FC at the Mamboleo Grounds Stadium in Kisumu.

The match’s defining moment came in the 34th minute when striker Benson Omalla found the back of the net, marking the game’s only goal.

The second half saw Shabana FC tighten their defense, preventing any further goals while also seeking scoring opportunities. Despite their efforts, Gor Mahia’s win has propelled them to a commanding lead in the KPL standings with 63 points, a comfortable 12-point lead over their closest rivals, Police FC.

Shabana FC’s loss has left them in a precarious position near the bottom of the table, level with Sofapaka at 28 points and hovering just above the relegation zone.

The race for the golden boot intensified as Omalla’s goal brought his season tally to 15, closely pursued by Police FC’s Tito Okello, who has netted 13 goals. With only five matches remaining, the competition for the top scorer is heating up.

In another high-scoring affair, Kariobangi Sharks triumphed over Sofapaka with a 5-2 win, securing their mid-table position while Sofapaka struggles near the relegation threshold.

Other league action saw Ulinzi Stars and Muhoroni Youth play out a goalless draw, each taking a point from the match. Similarly, KCB and Nzoia Sugar shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, leaving KCB in 11th place and Nzoia Sugar at the bottom of the league table. The KPL continues to deliver thrilling football as teams vie for supremacy and survival in the closing stages of the season.
