GSU Beat Nairobi Prisons To Steam Up Pressure on KDF

The Kenya Volleyball Federation champions General Service Unit (GSU), defeated Nairobi Prisons 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-10), bringing them closer to securing a playoff spot On Saturday.

GSU’s head coach, Gideon Tarrus, emphasized the importance of staying focused with playoffs approaching.

He praised his team’s performance and acknowledged the challenge of obtaining all three points against high-level teams.

Tarrus intends to take the games one by one to qualify for the playoffs before defending their title.

In another game, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) earned two crucial points after a slow start of the season, rallying from behind to stun Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 3-2.

KDF won the first set 25-22, but KPA responded in the second set with a score of 26-24 to level the match. KDF regained their lead by winning the third set 25-22, but KPA fought back in the fourth set with a score of 25-23, setting up a tense deciding set.

KPA held their nerves and won the final set 15-11, leaving KDF to regret their missed opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the league.

Earlier in the day, Kenya Army defeated AP Kenya 3-1 before a rain delay interrupted the games.

The games resumed at 3:30 PM with GSU and KPA simultaneously playing their opponents at different venues.

 KDF remains at the top of the league with 22 points, followed closely by defending champions GSU, who have played a match less.

The games will continue on Sunday with fixtures featuring KFS versus Equity Bank, Mombasa Prisons versus Rift valley Prisons, Central Prisons versus Trail Blazers, Western Prisons versus Kenya Prisons, KPA versus Vihiga, Nairobi Prisons versus KDF, Kenya Army versus GSU, and Nyanza Prisons versus AP Kenya.
