The Kenya’s national football team Harambee Stars have received an invitation to participate in the 2024 COSAFA Championship, set to take place in South Africa from June 26 to July 7.

They step in as a substitute for Malawi, who have withdrawn from the competition.

Nick Mwendwa, the head of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), views this as an invaluable chance for head coach Engin Firat to fortify his squad in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers beginning in September 2025.

With the cancellation of CECAFA this year, Mwendwa expressed gratitude for the invitation to Port Elizabeth, attributing it to the team’s undefeated streak this year. He emphasized the importance of continued support for the team’s consistent efforts to achieve favorable outcomes.

In Group C, the Stars are set to face formidable opponents; Zambia, Comoros, and Zimbabwe. These matches are expected to challenge head coach Firat and provide a rigorous assessment of his team’s capabilities.

As the FKF Premier League concludes on June 23, anticipation builds for coach Firat’s announcement of the provisional squad later in the day, setting the stage for Kenya’s journey in the COSAFA Championship and beyond.
