Kabras Retain Kenya Cup Crown with Win Over KCB
Kabras Sugar has clinched the Kenya Cup championship title once again, after a thrilling 19-9 victory over their fierce rivals, KCB RFC, in an epic final held at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday.
The triumph marked a remarkable season for Kabras, who finished the campaign unbeaten to retain their status as the nation’s top rugby team.
In the first half, both teams opted for a defensive strategy, but Kabras managed to secure a penalty and head into the break with a slim three-point lead. However, in the second half, Kabras rallied to score three penalties through Ntabeni Dukisa and a penalty try, amassing a total of 19 points.
On the other hand, KCB only managed to score three penalties through Darwin Mukidza.
This encounter marked the sixth time that the two teams have battled it out in the Kenya Cup finals.
KCB coach Curtis Olago acknowledged that both teams played well defensively, but his side made costly mistakes that Kabras capitalized on to secure the win.
Despite the loss, Olago remained optimistic, stating that they would fight another day.
Meanwhile, Kabras coach Carlos Katywa commended his players for their mental preparedness and for executing the game plan to perfection.
