In a closely contested match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday, Kakamega Homeboyz emerged victorious by defeating AFC Leopards 1-0 to claim the second edition of the Elijah Lidonde Super Cup.

The intensity of the match heightened when Aziz Okaka of AFC Leopards was sent off, leaving them with one man less on the field.

Ugandan striker Davis Kasire, who came off the bench in the 79th minute, made a significant impact by scoring the lone goal just six minutes after replacing Harambee Stars forward Moses Shummah. This victory marks Homeboyz’s second title in the club’s history, following their success in the FKF Cup last season.

In addition to the prestigious trophy, Homeboyz pocketed Sh1 million in prize money, while AFC Leopards received Sh500,000 for their efforts in the closely fought final.

Meanwhile, Mulembe United secured the bronze medal by stunning Nzoia Sugar 2-1 in the third-place playoffs. The National Super League side, Mulembe United, walked away with Sh250,000, while Nzoia Sugar received Sh200,000.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi contributed further to the event by awarding an additional Sh100,000 to each of the four participating clubs.

In the thrilling Mulembe versus Nzoia match, Joseph Wafula broke the deadlock in the 27th minute for the millers, only to have his celebration cut short by Kevin Sagida’s equalizer just three minutes later. Kendrick Onzore secured the winner in the 81st minute, capitalizing on Nzoia’s defensive blunder.
