Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Ladies volleyball head coach Japheth Munala has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to clinch the inaugural Kenya Cup title.

Following a commanding start to their campaign, Munala believes his squad has the depth and intensity needed to dominate the competition.

“We kicked off with a strong win against KDF, and the girls showed great composure and energy. I have no doubt that if we maintain this level of play, we can top our pool and go all the way to win the tournament,” Munala stated.

KCB, the reigning national women’s volleyball league champions, made a statement in their opening match, overpowering Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in straight sets (25-16, 25-12, 25-19) at the Nyayo Gymnasium on Friday.

Team captain Edith Wisa lauded her teammates for their stellar performance, particularly highlighting the contributions of the younger players and returning stars.

“The team played exceptionally well today, and I’m especially proud of the younger players who adapted seamlessly. It was also great to see Jackline Namutira back from injury—she put in a fantastic performance,” Wisa noted.

Despite the emphatic victory, Wisa urged her teammates to remain focused as they prepare for crucial encounters against arch-rivals Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Army in Pool B.

“We cannot afford to get complacent. We have tough matches ahead against Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Army, so we must stay disciplined and keep pushing forward,” she emphasized.

In other matches, Kenya Prisons overcame a resilient Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) side with a 3-1 victory (25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 25-23).

Meanwhile, Kenya Pipeline asserted their dominance, sweeping past Kenya Army in straight sets (25-13, 25-10, 25-12) at the same venue.

As the competition intensifies, KCB will be looking to build on their momentum and cement their place as the team to beat in the inaugural Kenya Cup.
