Kenya, the defending champions, showcased their dominance on Friday during the penultimate round of the Africa Region Four Golf Championships at the Addis Ababa Golf Club in Ethiopia.

After initially trailing behind Uganda in the opening round on Wednesday, Kenya surged ahead in the second round on Thursday, and on Friday, they extended their lead to a significant margin of 15 shots over Uganda.

Kenya displayed a remarkable performance, shooting a gross score of (+15) 654, including a stellar round of two under par 211 in the third round, setting the stage for the upcoming finals on Saturday.

Due to the absence of Burundi, which withdrew from the tournament, the five participating nations are engaged in stroke play format to accommodate the odd number of teams.

Uganda maintained their second position with a total score of (+30) 669, while Rwanda followed in third place with (+57) 696. The hosts secured the fourth spot with a score of (+59) 698, and Tanzania trailed behind in fifth place with a score of (+83) 722.

Michael Karanga from Kiambu Golf Club continued to shine as the top-performing Kenyan, finishing the three rounds at one under par 212. In the first round on Wednesday, Karanga shot level par 71, followed by a one-over-par 72 in the second round and an impressive two-under-par 69 in the third round.

The reigning Kenya Amateur Golf Championships champion, John Lejirma, climbed to the second position, tying with Ugandan golfer Godfrey Nsubuga at two over par 215.

Nsubuga, who has been competing in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series, is considered a favorite heading into the third round of the 74-hole tournament.

Captain Dennis Maara from Limuru improved his position, moving up two spots to secure a tied sixth position at 229, while Kiambu’s young talent, Elvis Muigua, concluded the third round at a respectable tied 12th position with a score of 236.
