Beatrice Chebet, the Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion, will take centre stage in the highly anticipated 3,000m race at the Oslo Diamond League on Thursday.
Accompanying Chebet will be a strong Kenyan contingent, including Lilian Kasait, the All Africa Games 5,000m champion, Margaret Chelimo, the world 10,000m silver medallist, Agnes Ngetich, and Caroline Nyaga, the Africa 10,000m champion.
Their competition will come in the form of Feysa Hawi from Ethiopia, Sarah Chelebagat from Uganda, and Warner Judd Jessica from Great Britain.
Following the event in Oslo, Chebet will continue her preparations for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August by participating in races in Silesia and London.
Having claimed the 5,000m Diamond trophy last season, Chebet is eager for another successful season on the track.
“I don’t feel any pressure at all since I believe that if luck is on my side, I will definitely perform well. I am focused on intense training and will be grateful for whatever I achieve,” she expressed.
The men’s 1,500m race promises an exciting showdown as Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot aims to find top form ahead of the national championships. Cheruiyot will face stiff competition from a strong field, including Abel Kipsang and Boaz Kiprugut.
The race will also feature Jakob Ingrebrigsten, the Olympic champion and home favorite, Mohammed Katir of Spain, the world 1500m bronze medallist, Stewart Mcsweyn from Australia, Mounir Akbache from Spain, Oliver Hoare from Great Britain, and Lem Teddese from Ethiopia.
In the men’s 5,000m race, Kenyan athletes Cornelius Kemboi and Ishmael Kipkurui will face a formidable challenge from Jacob Kiplimo, the double Commonwealth Games champion from Uganda. Ethiopian contenders Yomif Kejelcha, Samuel Teferi, and Haile Bekele will also add to the intense competition.
Meanwhile, Olympic champions Katie Moon, Ryan Crouser, and Selemon Barega are set to grace the sixth Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season in Lausanne on June 30.
