Kenya faced a setback in their impressive run at the Hockey 5s World Cup in Oman as they succumbed to a 5-2 defeat against the hosts in the quarterfinals on Tuesday morning.

Oman’s Rashad Al Fazari and Khalid Al Shaaibi secured an early lead with quick goals in the ninth minute. Bethuel Masambu’s field goal in the 13th minute narrowed the gap to 2-1 at halftime.

Oman extended their lead in the 16th minute through Asama Barazahan, and Al Shaaibi completed his hattrick with two goals in quick succession. Masambu managed to score his second in the 23rd minute, providing Kenya with a consolation goal.

Despite the quarterfinal loss, Kenya’s resilient performance in the tournament has been noteworthy. Oman will now proceed to face India in their fifth-place playoff encounter scheduled for Tuesday evening.
