Kenya’s Rising Stars secured the runner-up position at the tri-nation tournament in Lilongwe, despite a 3-1 defeat to the host nation, Malawi, in their concluding match on Sunday.

Malawi triumphed in the tournament, accumulating six points after their initial victory over Zimbabwe and the win against Kenya.

The Kenyan team, however, managed to secure second place with three points, thanks to their earlier win against Zimbabwe.

The match saw Kenya’s defense struggle, leading to a two-goal advantage for Malawi with Emmanuel Savieli and Chifuniro Kamenya finding the net. Kenya’s Ezekiel Omuri later narrowed the gap with a volley, but Malawi’s Madalisto Safuli sealed the win with a late goal.

Interim coach Anthony Akhulia reflected positively on the experience gained from the tournament, highlighting the team’s growth and preparation for future competitions.

Kenya’s initial win over Zimbabwe was a highlight for the team, setting a strong foundation for their overall performance in the tournament.
