Kenya’s Shujaa Thrash South Africa to Secure Olympic Qualification
Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, secured their third consecutive Olympic qualification on Sunday.
The national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, faced the arduous task of triumphing in the Rugby Africa Cup To secure their coveted Olympic berth. They rose to the challenge with impressive fortitude, emerging victorious in a gripping final against South Africa’s formidable Blitzboks, ultimately prevailing with a final score of 17-12.
Despite trailing 12-7 at halftime, Shujaa made an incredible comeback, with John Okoth scoring the decisive try that lifted Kenya to victory and dashed the South African hopes.
However, the Blitzboks still have a chance to qualify by winning the Olympic repechage, where the final Paris 2024 slot will be up for grabs.
In the semi-finals earlier on Sunday, Shujaa had convincingly beaten hosts Zimbabwe 35-10, while South Africa emerged victorious against Uganda with a score of 26-14 in the other semi-final match.
Shujaa’s previous Olympic appearances saw them finish in ninth place at Tokyo 2020 and 11th place at Rio 2016. With their qualification for Paris 2024, they aim to make a strong impact on the international rugby sevens stage.
