As the Rugby Africa Cup approaches, the Kenyan national men’s rugby 15s team, affectionately known as the Simbas, is brimming with determination and ambition.

Under the guidance of Coach Jerome Paarwater, the team is eager to replicate their 2013 success and claim the continental title once more.

Coach Paarwater, who led the Simbas to victory against Zimbabwe in 2013, is optimistic about the team’s prospects. Despite recent setbacks, including a defeat by Namibia that dashed their World Cup hopes, the focus is now squarely on the upcoming quarterfinal against Senegal on July 20 at Namboole Stadium.

The Simbas have been diligently preparing for the past month, with Paarwater noting significant progress in the players’ performance. The team, captained by George Nyambua of Kabras Sugar, boasts a mix of seasoned athletes and fresh talent, including several players set to make their national team debut.

The 28-man traveling squad features key players like Hibrahim Ayoo from Menengai Oilers, Griffin Musila and Wilhite Mususi from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), and Bryceson Adaka from Kabras Sugar. Newcomer Abdultwalib Wesonga will also join the ranks, alongside non-traveling reserves such as Francis Atiti and Tyson Maina.

The technical team, led by Paarwater, with Jimmy Mnene as Team Manager and Stephen Mankone as Physio, is committed to steering the Simbas towards a triumphant performance in Uganda, igniting hope for another glorious chapter in Kenyan rugby history.
