Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) assistant head coach Samuel Ocholla is thrilled as his team delivered an exceptional performance, securing a hard-fought victory against the formidable Equity Dumas with a scoreline of 64-61 in a closely contested men’s basketball premier league match at the Makande Gymnasium over the weekend.

Ocholla attributes this heroic display to the team’s discipline in executing the meticulously planned game strategy, following an intensive week of training drills.

“The boys played according to the game plan we had. We were in the camp for about a week where we had all the players, and we saw that the training really helped us because we were shooting well,” explained Ocholla. He emphasized the importance of the team’s collective effort during the weeklong camp, highlighting their proficiency in shooting and the successful execution of the devised game plan.

Despite the impressive win, Ocholla acknowledges that there is still room for improvement, emphasizing the need to address specific areas. He expressed confidence that with focused efforts before their upcoming match against Eldonets Platinum at Makande, they can make necessary adjustments.

Ocholla particularly emphasized the significance of enhancing their shooting percentage to elevate their overall performance.

“We have areas we need to rectify and work on, and I believe before we play our next match against Eldonets Platinum here at Makande, we will have already worked on them,” said Ocholla. “For now, we shoot, run, and defend well, but if we improve on our shooting percentage, I trust we will play better. If we play well the way we did against Equity, we will have a big chance of defending our title at the end of the season.”

KPA has completed 10 matches in the first leg, securing eight victories and experiencing two defeats, currently holding the third position with 18 points.

Meanwhile, Equity Dumas, after playing an equal number of matches with six wins and four losses, occupies the fourth position with 16 points.

In another men’s premier league match, Africa Nazarene University’s Wolfpacks concluded their first leg with a 65-60 victory over ABSA. The Wolfpacks have played all their first leg matches, winning five and losing six, positioning them in fifth place with 16 points.

ABSA, concluding their first leg matches, moved to the sixth position with 14 points after playing 11 matches, winning three and losing eight.
