National team star Victoria Reynolds shone with a game-high 21 points, leading Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to a 73-53 triumph over Nigeria’s Customs in the Africa Women’s Basketball League in Alexandria, Egypt. KPA now boasts a 2-0 record in the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Despite a slow start trailing by half a basket in the first quarter (18-17), KPA rallied with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Nigerians by 20 points. Madina Okot and Alyssa Bannister also contributed significantly with double-digit scores of 10 and 12 points, respectively.

Coach Anthony Ojukwu expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, acknowledging their solid execution, defense, and transition play. However, he emphasized the need to address shaky starts and reduce turnovers in future matches.

In their next game, KPA will face Cameroon’s University de Douala on tonight , aiming to continue their successful campaign.

Meanwhile, Equity Hawks, another Kenyan representative, faced a tough challenge in their Group B clash against Rwanda Energy Group, suffering an 84-50 defeat. The Hawks couldn’t overcome their Rwandese counterparts in their second match.

Grace Malu, the Hawks’ Congolese import, displayed an impressive performance with 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory for the team. The loss puts the Hawks in a challenging position in the competition, emphasizing the need for a turnaround in their upcoming matches.
