Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has encountered another setback after reportedly suffering a fresh muscle injury, as per reports on Thursday.

Thiago had been sidelined since April due to hip and hamstring issues before making a late appearance in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss against Arsenal last Sunday, coming on in the 85th minute.

The 32-year-old Spaniard is said to have experienced discomfort in his muscles after the match, prompting concerns over his fitness and leading to another spell on the sidelines. Thiago’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of this season, raising questions about his future at Anfield amid ongoing fitness struggles.

His absence will undoubtedly be felt by Liverpool, who currently lead the Premier League standings by two points and are gearing up for the League Cup final against Chelsea on February 25. Additionally, they are progressing in the FA Cup fifth round against Southampton and the Europa League last 16.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad is already without the services of Hungary midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who has aggravated a hamstring injury, for the upcoming fixture against Burnley on Saturday at Anfield.

There is a possibility that Wataru Endo could step in to fill the void in Liverpool’s midfield, having returned from the Asian Cup following Japan’s elimination from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Reds forward Mohamed Salah remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained while on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Egypt last month.
