The team from Mombasa emerged victorious in both the boys and girls categories, clinching the overall title during the competition
This event was held to determine the team that would represent the Coast Region in the national competition in Eldoret later this month.
Mombasa secured the boys’ category with a total of 747 points, followed by Kwale with 203 points, while Lamu and Kilifi finished third and fourth with 178 and 28 points, respectively.
The girls’ trophy also went to Mombasa, as they amassed 788 points, followed by Kwale in second with 99, Lamu in third with 27, and Kilifi in fourth with 13.
National team swimmer Maria Bianchi of Mombasa was among the stars of the competition, winning the girls’ 200 metres individual medley (IM) in 2:37.85, the 50m butterfly in 31.83, and the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:21.33.
Twalib Ahmed Hamza stood out in the boys’ category, winning four events: the 50m butterfly (27.40), 100m breaststroke (1:21.33), 100m butterfly (1:01.93), and 100m freestyle (59.22).
Hakeem Salim of Maweni Secondary School won the boys’ 50m breaststroke in 34.57, while Ali A Nahdy of Mombasa won the boys’ 50m freestyle event in 26.56 and the 200m IM in 2:38.31.
Austin Kituku of Mombasa emerged as the winner of the boys’ 12-15 years 100m breaststroke in 1:29.79 and the 50m freestyle with a time of 28.29.
In the 16-20 years girls’ 50m breaststroke, Mwanarusi Buto of Kwale finished in second position with a time of 1:03.92 minutes, behind winner Mikaela Lucas who returned a time of 46.93.
Selected results included Hussein Abdurrahman of Mombasa winning the boys’ 12-15 years 50m breaststroke in 40.71 seconds, Caleb Ikumu of Mombasa coming in second with 45.14 seconds, and Salim Shirazy of Mombasa in third with 49.75 seconds.
Em-Hotep Mutinda of Mombasa won the 16-20 years boys’ 50m breaststroke in 34.10 seconds, Hashim Mohamed of Lamu came in second with 38.14 seconds, and Abdulrahman Hanzwani of Mombasa finished third with 44.28 seconds.
