Jose Mourinho dismissed the significance of history as his Roma team prepares to face Europa League specialists Sevilla in the final in Budapest.

The Italian side, currently sitting in fifth place in Serie A, will take on the six-time winners at the Puskas Arena, a year after winning the inaugural Europa Conference League.

Despite Sevilla’s perfect record in European second-tier finals, Mourinho downplayed the relevance of their achievements, emphasizing that Roma deserved to be in the final.

When asked about his future, Mourinho clarified that he had not had any contact with other clubs and was solely focused on the upcoming match.

Mourinho has an impressive record in continental competitions, including two Champions League wins, two Europa League trophies, and last year’s Conference League triumph.

If Roma secures victory, Mourinho will surpass Giovanni Trapattoni’s five major European trophies. Both Mourinho and Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, who joined the club in March, have similar levels of experience at the European level. Mendilibar appreciated Mourinho’s comments but acknowledged that history alone would not determine the outcome of the game.
