As he assumes leadership at the Kenya Motorsports Federation (KMSF), experienced motorsports administrator Maina Muturi acknowledges the immediate challenges that demand his attention.

Muturi aims to rejuvenate Kenyan motorsports by revitalizing the Kenya National Rally Championships (KNRC), aligning with the Sports Act, securing corporate partnerships, and nurturing young talents from an early age.

These core principles underline his new administration, aiming to bolster Kenya’s standing as a prominent motorsports hub in Africa and globally.

Muturi emphasizes his commitment to revitalizing the KNRC, which faced a decline in the 2022/2023 season with minimal entries. With a focus on the Safari Rally, he seeks to bolster local participation and seek government support.

In compliance with the 2013 Sports Act, Muturi highlights the importance of aligning the federation and its member clubs. This alignment is pivotal to attracting government aid and funding, prompting his immediate attention.

However, Muturi’s foremost endeavour is nurturing a comprehensive talent development program, building on existing age-group competitions.

He believes that youth development in autocross and karting is crucial, citing examples of successful drivers who started in these disciplines.

Recognizing the contributions of corporate partners, Muturi acknowledges the industry’s reliance on their resources and calls for continued support.

Maina Muturi’s ascent to the top post at KMSF followed his appointment on Friday, succeeding former chair Phineas Kimathi.

Muturi previously led KMSF in 2007/08 and currently chairs the East Africa Motorsports Club. His ambitious plans signify a wind of change in Kenya’s motorsports landscape.
