Kelvin Etemesi proved instrumental as Nairobi City Stars rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over AFC Leopards in an FKF-PL encounter at Nyayo Stadium. Etemesi netted a brace, turning the tide in City Stars’ favour.

The match took place without spectators as Leopards faced a fan ban due to the Bukhungu chaos that occurred last month.

Leopards took the lead in the 17th minute, courtesy of a goal from Victor Omune. However, Etemesi equalized for City Stars in the 66th minute.

Despite having the opportunity to extend their lead, Leopards’ Cliff Nyakeya missed his chance, maintaining the scoreline. In the 89th minute, Etemesi capitalized on a defensive error by Leopard’s full-back, Washington Munene, doubling City Stars’ lead.

The victory secures City Stars’ safety in the top-flight league, as they currently sit 15th in the league standings with 33 points. They have a comfortable 10-point lead over relegation-threatened Wazito FC, with three matches remaining.

Meanwhile, Leopards remain in seventh place on the league table, accumulating a total of 48 points.

Leopards’ head coach, Patrick Aussems, expressed disappointment with his team’s defensive lapses, which contributed to their defeat.

On the other hand, Nicholas Muyoti, the City Stars’ counterpart, was pleased with his team’s resilient comeback.

City Stars’ victory showcases their determination and ability to turn the game around, highlighting their competitive spirit in the FKF-PL.
