Kenya’s Angela Okutoyi and Alicia Owegi delivered an outstanding performance, leading their team to a remarkable 3-0 victory over third-seeded Botswana on the second day of the Billie Jean King Tennis Africa Group III at Nairobi Club.

In the first singles match, Alicia Owegi fought hard and secured a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win against Cheludo Monanayoo.

her impressive performance, Okutoyi took charge and dominated Chelsea Chakanyuka with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory, putting Kenya in a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The Doubles Match Three was an exhilarating affair, as Okutoyi teamed up with her twin sister Roselida Asumwa to face Chelsea Chakanyuka and Kelebogile Monayo.

Kenya’s dynamic duo proved to be too strong for Botswana, winning both sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4, securing a decisive 3-0 win.

Expressing her joy at playing alongside her twin sister, Okutoyi expressed confidence in their team’s prospects for the remainder of the tournament. She said, “It feels great to be back playing together and contributing to the team’s victory. We are full of energy and have gained more confidence for our upcoming matches.”

With their impressive performance on Tuesday, Kenya climbed to the second seed in Pool A, just behind leaders Nigeria, who secured a 2-0 win against Namibia through Quardre Barakat’s 6-4, 6-0 victory over Lisa Yssel and Divine Nweke’s dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Joanivia Bezuidenhout.

In other matches, Morocco bounced back from their opening-day defeat against Kenya by defeating Uganda 2-0.
