Posta Rangers, Gor Mahia Lead the Way in the FKF Premier League with Commanding Wins
Posta Rangers surged to the summit of the FKF Premier League with a convincing 3-1 victory over Sofapaka FC in the early Sunday kick-off at the Kasarani Annex.
This win marked their bright start to the season, remaining undefeated after three games and accumulating seven points.
Gor Mahia FC closely trailed them in second place, only behind on goal difference. They too won two matches and drew one in their opening three fixtures. The reigning champions displayed ruthless form against Nairobi City Stars later on Sunday, sealing a 4-1 victory.
Benson Omalla netted a brace, while Rodgers Mugisha and Austin Odhiambo contributed the other two goals. Dennis Oalo grabbed the consolation goal for the visitors.
The initial half of the Sofapaka vs. Posta Rangers match remained goalless. However, the dynamics shifted significantly after the break. Posta Rangers, led by Macharia Jackson, broke the deadlock early in the second half. Peter Thiong’o added two quick goals in the 70th and 73rd minutes, solidifying Posta Rangers’ dominance.
Sofapaka showed resilience and pulled a goal back in the 77th minute when substitute Oliver Maloba seized an opportunity in the box. They intensified their efforts, forcing three remarkable saves from Posta Rangers’ goalkeeper, Njau John, before the final whistle.
In the second match of the doubleheader, Sharks secured a 2-1 victory against KCB. The first half saw a balanced contest, but Stanley gave the Sharks the lead in the 30th minute with a close-range finish, assisted by Geoffrey Onyango.
A defensive mix-up allowed KCB to level the score in the 45th minute of the first half, courtesy of Francis Kahiro. In the second half, Geoffrey Onyango found the net himself, as his deflected cross found the top corner, restoring the Sharks’ lead after 68 minutes.
Talanta FC disrupted Murang’a Seal’s unbeaten run with Alex Juma’s 90th-minute goal at Ruaraka Grounds, securing a 1-0 victory.
