Sha’Carri Richardson dominates 200m at Kasarani, sets meet record

Sha’Carri Richardson wowed the crowd at the Absa Kip Keino Stadium on Saturday, setting a new meet record of 22.07 seconds to claim victory in the women’s 200 metres.

From the start, the American sprinter led the race, and by the time she was approaching the finish line, she was already celebrating.

The stadium erupted in thunderous applause as Richardson crossed the finish line, celebrating her remarkable victory. Her time now stands as the second-fastest in the world this season, just behind Julien Alfred’s 21.91.

“I’m thrilled to have won here in Nairobi, and while the season has been good so far, I’m hoping for an even better one. We still have a few events before the World Championships,” said Richardson.

Her compatriot Kyra Jefferson took second place in a season’s best time of 22.77 seconds, while Ray Shannon finished third with a personal best time of 22.82 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Richardson expressed her joy at winning in Nairobi and hinted at an even better season ahead, with a few events still to come before the World Championships.

Her time of 22.07 seconds is now the second-best in the world this season, after Julien Alfred’s 21.91.

In the men’s 200m race, Canada’s Aaron Brown emerged victorious with a time of 20.12 seconds, beating Kyree King from the USA, who finished in second place with a season-best time of 20.18 seconds.

Brown expressed his excitement at his strong performance, stating that he would like to run even faster this season. He also expressed his desire for the World Championships to be held in Africa, citing Kenya’s impressive talent as evidence that the continent is a worthy host for the global event.
