Tiger Woods to miss 2023 PGA Championship due to ankle injury, Jordan Spieth to play
Golf legend Tiger Woods has announced that he will not participate in the 2023 PGA Championship due to ongoing recovery from an ankle injury.
In April, the 47-year-old had undergone “successful” fusion surgery on his right ankle after withdrawing from the Masters due to plantar fasciitis. Woods has had a history of ankle injuries, including an arthritis issue from a previous ankle fracture, and was seen limping on the course before his surgery.
This latest setback is the third time in seven years that Woods has missed the tournament, which will take place from May 18-21 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester.
This news comes as another blow for Woods, who has only played in five tournaments since a career-threatening car crash in February 2021, completing 72 holes twice.
Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth, who recently withdrew from the AT&T Byron Nelson event with a wrist injury, is still on the entry list for the PGA Championship.
Spieth only needs a PGA Championship victory to complete the Grand Slam, a feat achieved by only five players before him. In a social media post, Spieth expressed disappointment in missing the Byron Nelson event, but is “focused on healing as quickly as possible” and will evaluate his recovery on a week-to-week basis.
