Tottenham Hotspur has completed the signing of Israel forward Manor Solomon on a free transfer. The deal follows his successful loan spell at Fulham and the cancellation of his contract with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Solomon, 23, was able to terminate his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk due to FIFA’s extension of temporary employment rules related to the war.

This development allowed him to join Tottenham on a five-year deal after passing his medical examination earlier this week.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine granted foreign players contracted to clubs affiliated with Ukrainian or Russian football associations the right to unilaterally suspend their employment until June 30, 2024.

Teams must be informed in writing by July 1 of this suspension. Solomon’s contract with Shakhtar was set to expire on December 31, enabling him to become a free agent by exercising his right to suspend his current employment with the Ukrainian club.

Having already represented Israel on 35 occasions, Solomon adds depth to Tottenham’s squad. He demonstrated his potential during his loan spell at Fulham last season, overcoming a serious knee injury to score five goals in 24 appearances. Fulham finished a commendable 10th in the Premier League.

Tottenham’s acquisition of Solomon marks their fourth signing since the end of last season. The club secured Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent deal from Juventus, while also adding Italy goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and England midfielder James Maddison to their roster.

It was recently announced that Tottenham will face Shakhtar Donetsk in a friendly match on August 6, potentially pitting Solomon against his former club. This fixture will serve as a notable encounter for the Israeli forward.

With Solomon’s arrival, Tottenham aims to strengthen its attacking options and build a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
