Following their impressive performance at last year’s WRC Safari Rally Kenya, the Toyota Gazoo Racing’s GR Yaris replica will be among the cars showcased during the iconic event’s 70th-anniversary celebrations in Nairobi on Friday.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba acknowledged Toyota’s significant role in the history of the Safari Rally, having secured victory in 10 editions and thrilling spectators with their remarkable racing artistry.
The GR Yaris is currently on display at the CFAO Motors showroom in Nairobi, allowing customers and rally enthusiasts to experience the World Rally Team livery firsthand.
During the launch of Toyota’s sponsorship for the WRC Safari, the Sports CS revealed that the GR Yaris would be a key feature in the upcoming anniversary celebration.
“On Friday, we have a special event to kick off the 70th-anniversary celebration, and due to the long-standing history of the Toyota brand with the Safari and the Gazoo Racing, we will be including the GR Yaris as part of that ceremony,” stated Namwamba.
He also extended an invitation to Team GR, acknowledging their valuable contribution and appreciation of Toyota’s sponsorship. Namwamba emphasized the government’s appreciation for partnerships with the corporate sector, including CFAO Motors, KCB Bank, and Safaricom, all uniquely Kenyan brands supporting this extraordinary Kenyan event.
During the event, CFAO Motors announced their continued sponsorship of the WRC Safari Rally for the third consecutive year.
In 2022, the Toyota GR Team achieved an outstanding podium finish, securing the top four positions and marking Toyota’s 10th victory at the Safari Rally.
Building on this success, CFAO Motors unveiled a sponsorship package worth Sh32 million for the 2023 WRC Safari Rally.
As part of the sponsorship, CFAO Motors will provide two Hilux pickups that will serve as safety route openers for the 00 car and 000 car, along with additional support services.

This event allows us to enhance our GR brand proposition, showcasing the performance of Toyota vehicles to the Kenyan consumer and promoting our QDR value proposition. In addition to the sponsorship, CFAO Motors will also unveil a range of Toyota models during the rally, some of which will be available for sale.
Among these models is the Toyota Hilux Pickup – Safari Rally Limited Edition, specially prepared with the Toyota Gazoo Racing kit.
Aligning with Toyota’s Environmental Challenge 2050, the company has committed to initiatives focused on addressing climate change and contributing to carbon neutrality.
