Shabana’s Head Coach Sammy Okoth tendered his resignation immediately after a humbling 4-0 loss to Ulinzi Stars, expressing that the team “deserves better.” The defeat, marking Shabana’s third loss in eight FKF Premier League matches, plunged them into the relegation zone.
Okoth, who was already feeling the pressure due to the team’s struggles in their first top-flight season in 17 years, cited the recent defeat as the tipping point. Despite a surprise 1-0 victory against Tusker FC, the heavy loss against Ulinzi Stars prompted his decision to step down.
Speaking after the match, Okoth lamented the unfortunate turn of events, stating, “Everything didn’t go right, and it is very unfortunate it happened this way. I am not okay with whatever happened, and I feel I should let go at the moment and I should just relax and let someone else come and do the job.”
Acknowledging the fans’ frustrations evident during the match and at the final whistle, Okoth emphasized that the team’s supporters deserve a better performance.
However, he departed with pride, highlighting the accomplishments he achieved during his tenure, particularly in assembling a team and guiding them to promotion. Okoth also encouraged the loyal Shabana fans not to be disheartened by the results, urging them to continue supporting the team.
In the match against Ulinzi, Shabana was outclassed by the military precision of their opponents. Ulinzi Stars secured a comfortable victory with goals from Paul Muchika, Mark Bikokwa (scoring twice), and Enosh Ochieng (who netted a brace).
The team faces a challenging period ahead, with a fixture against record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia at the Kasarani Stadium looming on Wednesday.
