Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, secured an emphatic 5-0 win against Seychelles in their Group F 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Monday night.
The team’s captain, Michael Olunga, played a pivotal role by scoring a remarkable brace within a span of three minutes. Olunga showcased his skill in the 3rd minute with a fine finish from the left side, manoeuvring past a Seychelles defender.
He swiftly followed up with a second goal in the 6th minute, unleashing a powerful shot after capitalizing on his own rebound. The scoring spree continued as Masoud Juma contributed the third goal, receiving a well-placed pass from Eric Johana and slotting the ball into the far-right corner.
In the second half, substitute left-back Aboud Omar set up Rooney Otieno, who confidently netted a long-range shot. The scoring spectacle concluded with Gor Mahia’s Benson Omalla scoring his first goal for Kenya with a simple tap-in, securing the fifth goal.
The victory propelled Kenya to third place in Group F, trailing Gabon by three points. Burundi dropped to fourth due to an inferior goal difference.
In an earlier Group F clash, Ivory Coast claimed their second win by defeating Gambia 2-0, securing the top spot with six points.
