Champions Gor Mahia extended their lead at the top of the Kenyan Premier League table to 10 points by defeating Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 in a thrilling encounter at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Alpha Onyango was awarded the Man-of-the-Match for his outstanding performance. The decisive goal came in the 90th minute, with Chris Ochieng finding the back of the net to overcome the resilient Kariobangi Sharks.
Meanwhile, at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz FC missed an opportunity to climb to third place as they were held to a goalless draw by visiting Bandari.
Bandari FC started strongly, and in the eighth minute, Hassan Abdallah’s powerful left-foot shot struck the crossbar. The hosts continued to threaten, with Brian Wekesa’s long-range effort narrowly missing the target in the 20th minute.
In the second half, Bandari created a significant chance through William Wadri’s strike, but Homeboyz goalkeeper James Ssetuba made a crucial save from a well-crafted counter-attack. The match had its share of drama when Bandari players initially considered abandoning the game in protest over a penalty awarded to the hosts.
However, following the intervention of their technical bench, they decided to continue. Bandari’s goalkeeper Joseph Ochuka saved Moses Shumah’s penalty kick, ensuring the match ended without goals.
Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo expressed disappointment with his players, especially the strikers, for not capitalizing on opportunities. He criticized their lack of character in winning matches.
On the other hand, Bandari coach John Barasa expressed satisfaction with the one point they secured on the road. The Dockers are now second on the table with 30 points, trailing Gor Mahia by 10 points.
