Paris Saint-Germain’s star forward Kylian Mbappe has reportedly reached an agreement to join Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 25-year-old French captain has informed PSG of his intention to depart as his contract with the club expires in June.
Although Mbappe has yet to finalize the contract with Real Madrid, the announcement of the deal is anticipated after the conclusion of this season’s Champions League, preventing any potential conflict between the two clubs.
Mbappe, a World Cup winner with France, holds the record as PSG’s top scorer with an impressive tally of 244 goals.
The decision was made public after Mbappe met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on February 13, expressing his desire to move to Real Madrid. Despite reports surfacing last Thursday regarding his departure, Mbappe was initially left out of the starting lineup for Saturday’s match against Nantes. However, he made a significant impact coming off the bench to convert a penalty, helping PSG extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 by 14 points.
According to reports, Mbappe is set to sign a lucrative five-year contract with Real Madrid, earning an annual salary of 15 million euros (£12.8 million), along with a staggering signing-on bonus of 150 million euros (£128 million) to be distributed over five years. Additionally, he will retain a portion of his image rights.
Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has already devised plans to integrate Mbappe into the team, with adjustments in the midfield and forward positions. Should Luka Modric depart this summer, Mbappe is expected to inherit the coveted number 10 shirt for Real Madrid.
Mbappe’s journey to this decision has been marked by significant developments, including his initial loan move to PSG from Monaco in 2017, which was later made permanent for a record-breaking fee. Despite the extension of his contract with PSG in 2022, Mbappe has been determined to pursue new challenges, ultimately leading to his impending move to Real Madrid.
While the details of Mbappe’s departure from PSG are yet to be finalized, it is anticipated that the process will involve negotiations for a transfer fee or potential financial compromises from the player’s side.
