Kenya’s Wafalme volleyball team clinched the silver medal at the African Games following a challenging match against Egypt, which ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Kenyan side.
The final, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana, saw Wafalme put up a valiant fight, particularly in the first set, but Egypt ultimately prevailed with scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-17.
Despite the setback, Head Coach Elisha Aliwa, who previously secured a bronze medal as a player, remains optimistic about the team’s potential, especially given their strong performance throughout the tournament before facing Egypt.
The women’s team, Malkia Strikers, also had a successful outing, securing a bronze medal by defeating Ghana in straight sets. The Strikers, who were the previous champions, showed resilience and determination to finish on the podium after a tough loss the day before.
Coach Japheth Munala praised the team’s effort and is looking ahead to future competitions, with the Olympic Games being the next major target. The focus for both teams is now on training and preparation to ensure they return stronger for upcoming challenges.
