AL Duhail, led by the indomitable Michael Olunga, soared into the Emir Cup semi-finals after a nail-biting 3-2 victory against Al Arabi. Olunga, the Harambee Stars captain, was in stellar form, netting two goals, while the skilled Philippe Coutinho contributed a crucial goal to seal the win.
Despite a lackluster league season that saw them finish in sixth place, Duhail has set their sights on Cup glory to salvage their season. Their journey in the Emir Cup has rekindled their hopes for silverware.
The match began on a shaky note for Duhail as Youssef Msakni of Tunisia propelled Al Arabi ahead with an early goal. Yet, Olunga’s aerial prowess quickly restored parity with a well-executed header, courtesy of Almoez Ali’s assist. The lead was short-lived, however, as Msakni doubled his tally, edging Arabi ahead once more.
Undeterred, Duhail rallied back with Coutinho showcasing his finesse with a composed finish in the 24th minute, following a blocked attempt from Ali.
The second half saw Duhail assert their dominance, culminating in Olunga’s decisive strike in the 54th minute, delivered with his less-favored right foot.
Olunga expressed his elation over the triumph and is keen to propel his team to Cup success, drawing inspiration from this hard-fought victory.
