Ferdinand Omanyala, Africa’s fastest man and Commonwealth Games 100m champion, is gearing up for the 100m men’s opening heats at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics.
The competition promises intense clashes with top sprinters, including American Noah Lyles, Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, and Akani Simbine.
Omanyala expressed his readiness to perform on the global stage, having acclimatized to the weather after days of preparation.
“I am honoured to be here among the best sprinters in the world for the 2024 Olympics. The competition is going to be intense, but I am ready to showcase my ability at this global spectacle. Having pitched camp here for days, I can say I have acclimatized to the weather, and I am looking forward to Saturday’s action,” he explained.
His impressive 9.79-second performance at the national trials in Nairobi sets the stage for this year’s competition.
A gold medal win for Omanyala would be historic not only for Kenya but also for the entire African continent. Namibia’s Freddie Fredericks came close in 1996 with a silver medal at the Atlanta event.
CFAO Mobility Kenya, proud of its association with Omanyala, wishes him the best as he competes in his second Olympics.
Kenyans from all walks of life eagerly await Saturday’s action, where Omanyala will face tough opponents in the heats. The semi-finals and final will follow on Sunday, August 4, 2024
