Tottenham Hotspur has announced that manager Antonio Conte has departed the club “by mutual consent” due to the team’s struggles to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The Italian coach, who took charge in November 2021, recently went on a tirade about the club after a 3-3 draw against Southampton prior to the international break.
Cristian Stellini, his assistant, will take over as interim manager until the end of the season.
Despite sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table, Tottenham is only two points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle, who have two games in hand on them, in the race for Champions League qualification.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has emphasized the importance of unity and everyone working together to secure the highest possible finish for the club and its fans, with 10 Premier League games left in the season.
Stellini had previously taken on the role of standing in for Conte on the touchline this season while he was recovering from gallbladder surgery.
Meanwhile, former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason, who briefly served as interim boss in 2021, will take on the role of assistant coach.
