Kenya’s Under-U20 rugby team, Chipu, is set to showcase their prowess at the Rugby Africa U20 Barthes Trophy starting today at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
In a repeat of last year’s face-off, the hosts will clash against their arch-rivals, Uganda, in the quarterfinals at 4 pm.
Olago’s team emerged victorious against Uganda with a score of 54-20 in last year’s heavily one-sided quarterfinal match that took place in Nairobi.
The tournament will be played on a knockout basis, with eight national U20 teams competing. The defending champions, Zimbabwe, will take on Cote D’ivoire at 9am, 2018 champions Namibia will clash against Zambia, while Madagascar is set to play Tunisia.
The winner of the tournament will represent Africa at the World Rugby Junior Trophy, scheduled for South Africa (24 June-14 July) and Kenya (15-30 July), respectively.
The Barthés Trophy is the only junior tournament in Africa and is played over three match days.
